Ski Program

The 2012 Winter Sports Program runs January 28 through March 17, 2012 and includes alpine skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing at the Steamboat Ski Area on Saturday afternoons. Thanks to the help of so many of our volunteers, we’ve had over 35 wonderful seasons of winter fun. Every season our clients look forward to a great season and to seeing so many of their returning volunteers as well as meeting new ones.  Please go to www.steamboatstars.com for mandatory training dates for all volunteer opportunities.

Client athletes also have the opportunity to cross-country ski or snowshoe at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center on Wednesday afternoons from 1-2pm.

For more information on how to volunteer for these programs, please contact Resource and Volunteer Coordinator Rebecca Hanson at 970-879-2065 x111.

Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports ‘STARS’ provides recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, resulting in empowering and enriching the quality of life for its participants.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

There are opportunities to spend time one-on-one with a client and share a special interest you both enjoy such as hiking, bowling, handwork, cooking, art, bicycling, swimming, playing board games, putting puzzles together, attending sports events, and going to parades or other seasonal events.

You can participate in organized programs to assist clients with skiing, snowboarding, swimming, boating, and fishing.  Our Routt County Adaptive Ski/Snowboard/Snowshoe Program coordinates an average of 70 volunteers and 25 clients annually.

If you would enjoy socializing with other volunteers, there are opportunities to assist at the Horizons offices or with special events.  We can use help with assembling mailings, answering phones and greeting visitors, and working on various special events.  You can also help with the maintenance of our group homes (painting, building, gardening, yard maintenance, and moving furniture and equipment).

Contact Rebecca Hanson for information about our many volunteer opportunities at 879-4466 x111 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

"As you forget self in service to others, you will find that, without seeking it, your own cup of happiness will be full."

YOU can make a difference
