Grand Beginnings We are your early childhood connection!
We are a community 501(c)3 non-profit agency that was established in 1998. We collaborate by connecting parents, teachers and services to improve the lives of young children in Grand County. Our mission is to promote a child center school readiness system that fosters early learning, facilitates healthy child development and promote family success.

 

Family Voices Colorado is a chapter of the national, grassroots organization composed of families and friends who care for and about our children with special health care needs. The mission of Family Voices Colorado is to improve access to and quality of health care for children and youth with special health care needs. Family Voices Colorado is a project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center.

 

Sample Supports is an agency designed to creatively serve individuals with developmental disabilities in community-based settings throughout Colorado.  Sample Supports is an approved service agency through the Division of Developmental Disabilites.

 

The Division for Developmental Disabilities contracts with Horizons to provide services in our five county serivce area. Horizons complies with regulations dictated by the Department of Health and Human Services.

 

Alliance is the state-wide organization whose goal is enhancing and strengthening community services and supports for people with developmental disabilities throughout Colorado

 

Adam’s Camp mission is to maximize the strengths and potential of children and young adults with special needs by bringing together dedicated families with outstanding professionals and volunteers to provide specialized therapy programs, family support and recreational camps.

 

Community Cultivation's mission is to increase self-sufficiency and quality of life for individuals with disabilities and at risk youth by offering job skills training and vocational development. We utilize a horticulture context to enrich our community.

 

Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports ‘STARSprovides recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, resulting in empowering and enriching the quality of life for its participants.

 

Yampa Valley Autism Program A new case of autism is diagnosed nearly every 20 minutes. Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases. There is no medical detection, treatment, or cure for autism. 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism.

 

Behavior Services of the Rockies Our Mission: We strive to deliver the best quality behavior supports to improve the independence, inclusion, and overall quality of life of our clients by providing evidence-based, pragmatic treatment, consultation and teaching based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our goal is to transfer and teach skills to clients and caregivers, and to develop top-quality practitioners to expand the availability of high quality services throughout Colorado.

On a bluebird day Saturday on the east side of Rabbit Ears Pass, Chambers, Sexton, Troeger and about 15 other clients and their counselors from Horizons Specialized Services were taken on a 20-mi le snowmobile ride courtesy of Routt Powder Riders, with sleds and guides provided by Steamboat Snowmobile Tours.

Horizons officials cite Moffat County woman as example of program success. Vickie Flanders, a counselor for Horizons Specialized Services in Craig, said client Melinda Orr has come a long way. “She’s grown into a flower,” Flanders said of Orr. “She needed a lot of TLC, but I think she’s finally made it to a rose.”

 

 


Steamboat Today: Medals abound at Special Olympics bowling event

Bruce Rule didn’t have words for what it felt like to win the gold medal. He just kissed the medal that hung around his neck and smiled. Every one of the 38 Special Olympics athletes who rolled bowling balls down the lanes of Snow Bowl on Saturday afternoon got one of those medals.

Bill Mason loves the smell of candy. He loves the taste of it too, and he had plenty of opportunities to taste homemade toffee on his first day at a new job with the Steamboat Toffee Co. Mason was the end of a three-person assembly line Friday in a commercial kitchen near Hayden.

We celebrated recently when my youngest son, Lewis, got his first tooth. The celebration was sweeter because, like most of Lewis’s milestones, we’ve had to wait longer for it. Lewis has Down syndrome.

Kelly Chambers has been to some beautiful places. He has traveled to Belize with his parents and to Jamaica for his brother’s wedding. He also has accompanied his family on camping and boating trips to places such as Montrose and Flaming Gorge.

 

 


There are a few things Donnie Pearce wants people to know about him. He’s a big wrestling fan, he said, and he loves the blues. But Pearce, who is a client with Horizons Specialized Services, doesn’t often get to meet people out in the community, something he hopes to change Friday during the 35th
