Steamboat Today - Riding Powder on Rabbit Ears
On a bluebird day Saturday on the east side of Rabbit Ears Pass, Chambers, Sexton, Troeger and about 15 other clients and their counselors from Horizons Specialized Services were taken on a 20-mi le snowmobile ride courtesy of Routt Powder Riders, with sleds and guides provided by Steamboat Snowmobile Tours.

Vickie Flanders, a counselor for Horizons Specialized Services in Craig, said client Melinda Orr has come a long way. “She’s grown into a flower,” Flanders said of Orr. “She needed a lot of TLC, but I think she’s finally made it to a rose.”

Bruce Rule didn’t have words for what it felt like to win the gold medal. He just kissed the medal that hung around his neck and smiled. Every one of the 38 Special Olympics athletes who rolled bowling balls down the lanes of Snow Bowl on Saturday afternoon got one of those medals.
